Eastbourne pupils to show off design skills

PUPILS will show off their artistic talents at a blooming marvellous event on March 12.

Teams of school children from Hankham Primary, Moira House Junior and St. Johns Meads CE Primary will present their carpet garden designs at the Science In-Bloom finals being held at the Town Hall.

This annual In-Bloom event, now in its 16th year, is organised by Eastbourne Education Business Partnership in conjunction with Eastbourne Borough Council.

Schools were invited to produce a carpet garden design and classroom work using 'science' as the theme.

Eastbourne mayor Greg Szanto will be judging the event.

The pupils have been busy looking at science and exploring how it affects everything around us.

The finals coincide with the launch of National Science & Engineering Week and its theme, What on Earth is Going On?

"We are delighted once again to have the opportunity to provide a carpet garden design for the town," said Steven Goss-Turner, chair of Eastbourne EBP.

The standard of our school in-bloom entries and the enthusiasm of the pupils is always high, which can make the judging a challenge on its own."

The winning school will help Eastbourne Borough Council and staff from Wyvale Grounds Maintenance Ltd to plant out their design at Holywell in June.

Stone Cross Nurseries Ltd and St. Andrews's School, Meads have both very kindly donated prizes for the event.

Each school will also receive a special certificate in 'recognition of achievement', designed by Firebrand.

The organisers are very grateful for the support and sponsorship from Eastbourne Borough Council, Stone Cross Nurseries, Wyvale Grounds Maintenance Ltd, St. Andrew's School, Meads, The Weather Shop and Firebrand Design.
