European Partners visit Bexhill
A DELEGATION from Belgium has visited Bexhill to discuss a joint-European project which will provide funds to aid the regeneration of Egerton Park.
Rother District Council and the city of Oostende (Ostend) have been awarded a grant by a European Union (EU) programme called INTERREG to fund improvements to parks and other open spaces.
The partners will work to share knowledge and experience across the project, called 21st Century Parks.
The bid totals almost 1million Euros (approximately 820,000) with the EU paying half.
Rother District Council is using the funding to assist with the regeneration of Egerton Park and improve visitor facilities at Camber Sands.
A new public space will be created in Oostende, Belgium's largest passenger and ferry port, along with a visual art project to be shared with the Rother region.
The initial meeting between the partners, held at Bexhill Town Hall, discussed early project plans, opportunities for joint working and how a '21st century park' should look and feel.
Regular workshops will be held between the two parties to share best practice on the delivery of the projects.
Work should be completed in Rother and Oostende by 2013.
