Extension for Bexhill school
ROTHER councillors were last week recommended to grant full planning permission to extend a Bexhill school.
St Mary Magdalene Roman Catholic Primary School in Hastings Road wants to grow from being a one-form entry, 210-pupil, seven class school to one with 1.5 form entry, 315 pupils and 10.5 classes.
The scheme first came before the planning committee last month, but was deferred for amendments and further talks with neighbours.
Changes since have included moving junior classrooms further away from nearby homes, using obscure glazing in some windows, providing security fencing along a boundary with Royston Gardens and the hall ridge to become a traditional dual ridge rather than a staggered mono-pitch.
The new extension will be built on the existing car park and lower playground. An on-site drop off/collection area and new lay-by are intended to ease traffic problems.
A report to the committee noted: “The school is seeking additional space to meet increasing demand for places.
“Remodelling of the grounds to the rear of the school will not cause demonstrable harm to neighbours.”
