Fantastic £50k funding windfall for parish hall

SIDLEY residents have a new and improved parish hall after All Saints Church received a grant of almost £50,000.

The church hall, which has a wide range of uses including a day centre for the elderly one day a week, a meeting place for Beaver scouts, Slimming World, dance club and monthly coffee mornings, received the funding from Biffa Award - a multi-million pound fund that helps build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK.

All Saints parish hall, located next to the church vicarage, used the money to improve its facilities to make it more accessible to the local community. The hall’s three toilet areas were fully refurbished, and now include a disabled toilet and heating. Improvements were also made to the outdoor paths to make them safe for use and allow better access to the facilities.

All Saints Church Warden, Helen Bridger, said the changes have made a tremendous difference, adding: “The Parochial Church Council of All Saints Church is committed to improving the outreach of the church, part of which is having available modernised and fit for use hall facilities for use by all of the local community.

“The Biffa Award grant has made it possible for us to improve and modernise the toilets and to improve the safety as well as the visual aspect of the paths around the hall which had previously been slippery and not safe to walk on.”

Cath Hare, Biffa Award Acting Programme Manager, said: “Projects like this are incredibly important for local communities, which is why we look to invest in them. It is vital that communities have places to meet, and the work at All Saints Church in Sidley will benefit everyone that uses the facility.
