Fun for all at the fifth Edgyfest celebration

BEXHILL’S Egerton Park will become a focal point for fun next weekend when the town’s fifth Edgyfest event takes place there on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27.

From noon until 4pm on Saturday, the park plays host to a community sports and fun day, which almost inevitably this year will have an Olympics theme to many of the activities.

Many of Bexhill’s sports and athletics organisations will be offering taster demonstrations explaining their particular interests and in many cases offering chances to have-a-go.

Everything from amateur boxing to Zumba will be represented, together with a host of activities sure to appeal to younger festivalgoers, including a bouncy castle, face painting, crafts and a puppet show. A BMX bike display and Segways will add to the attractions.

Bexhill Giants Basketball Club will be slam-dunking for all it’s worth and the 1066 Gymnastics Group will be putting on a show highlighting its members’ supple talents. A huge marquee will dominate proceedings and provide welcome shelter if wet.

In the main arena - Egerton Park’s lawns are to be temporarily closed for normal public use throughout the weekend - there will be an It’s A Knockout challenge for local teams, plus a classic tug o’war. For more information and to register a team, call Keith on 01424 222457.

The following day, at 11am and 3pm, Churches Together in Bexhill will be holding Pentecostal Festival events to mark Whit Sunday, The morning session will be hosted by Beulah Baptist Church, while in the afternoon all denominations will celebrate in a “great congregation”.

Local county councillor Michael Ensor, a prime mover for Edgyfest, said: “All events are open to the public and we hope as many people as possible will come along to enjoy thewmselves and get involved. Anyone wanting more information is welcome to call me on 01424 225918.”

May 25, the Friday before Edgyfest gets underway, will see the Bexhill Street Pastors officially commissioned to operate in Bexhill on Friday nights, helping anyone in difficulties around the town. Members have been training for several months.
