Global Rock Challenge for young performers

70 STUDENTS from Bexhill High School will be taking part in Global Rock Challenge next week.

The youngsters will be travelling to Eastbourne's Congress Theatre to perform in the south-east heat on Tuesday March 16.

Emma Parks and Emma Baker are the teachers choreographing and co-ordinating the Bexhill High School entry, and commented: "This is a great opportunity for some of our youngsters to take part in the Global Rock Challenge, which is a truly amazing event.

"They have been rehearsing once a week since October as the competition is always so fierce from the other schools entering.

"In truth, the taking part is the most important aspect, for some students this is their third or fourth year of participating, and for all the new performers it will be a great experience."

The requirement is an eight minute dance/drama piece with a story or moral.

The Rock Challenge is an all-day event from 8am with rehearsal and preparation leading towards the evening show.

Rock Challenge strongly promotes a drug and alcohol free high which youngsters demonstrate is achieved when performing on stage at professional venues all around the world.

Mike Conn, Executive Principal at Bexhill High School, said: "It is great news that we are taking part in this prestigious event, and giving our students a wonderful opportunity to appear on stage.

"We all wish them well. Success would be great but the opportunity to take part is in itself most worthwhile.'

Anyone wanting to attend should contact the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne.
