Hastings' own Baywatch team up and running

The south coast's answer to the Baywatch posse are preparing for a busy summer.

Hastings's lifeguard team may not boast Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth or David Hasselhoff, but its work is just as important as the stars of the 1990s hit TV show.

The town's beach safety service runs until the start of September and includes lifeguard patrols on the seafront at Pelham Beach during the peak season and a beach patrol service outside the school holidays.

Councillor Trevor Webb, head of leisure at Hastings Borough Council, said the lifeguards play a vital role in keeping holiday-makers safe.

He said: "All our lifeguards and beach patrol staff hold Royal Lifesaving Society and First Aid qualifications and take part in regular training sessions.

"Keeping the public safe and being on hand to offer advice and information is a vital service in our seaside town and I'm pleased that we have such a well qualified and dedicated team.
