Homecall celebrates twenty five years

HOMECALL, one of Bexhill's best loved and vital charities, celebrated its twenty fifth anniversary with a special lunch at the Cooden Beach Sports and Social club.

Over one hundred guests attended including The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Peter Field, Bexhill Town Mayor Bridget George, Homecall's Patron Amanda Hamblin, Vice-Presidents Peggy Walke and John Dowling, Chairman Robert Hooker, Trustees and Scheme Manager Jenny Private.

Describing the event as "a wonderful occasion" Lord Lieutenant Peter Beale said:

"It's a privilege to be here today representing Her Majesty the Queen. It's not been an easy road for Homecall with funding from time to time and it's a worrying and constant issue.

"I'm delighted that this lifeline is still operating. It keeps going only through the dedication of all those involved who make the service what it is today.

"The support they bring to blind and visually impaired clients, the value of having someone to talk to and supply a meal, is huge and is vital to the fabric of our community."

Other guests included many of Homecall's blind or partially sighted clients, volunteer visitors, representatives of clubs, organisations, associations, businesses and individuals who have supported Homecall in the past three years since they became totally self funding.

Scheme Manager Jenny Private said:" I am very pleased to say that through the generosity of all those present our raffle raised sufficient to cover the total cost of the event and my very grateful thanks to them all for that support and for coming to celebrate our happy occasion."

Homecall, a home visiting scheme for the visually impaired, has received many awards and accolades including 'The Queens Award for Voluntary Service' in 2006.
