Hundreds pay tribute to Holocaust victims

More than 400 people packed St Mary-in-the-Castle for an annual Holocaust memorial service.

The moving event on Saturday marking the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945 featured speeches, prayers and music by Opera South East and violinist John Kane who played excerpts from the film Schindlers List.

Among the digniaties present were MP Michael Foster, Mayor Maureen Charlesworth and the Danish Ambassador Birger Riis-Jrgensen who gave a talk about the role played by Danish allies against the Nazis during the Second World War.

One of the speakers Frank Miller, said: "It was a very moving service and well attended."

The Holocaust Memorial Day Service was jointly arranged by the Council of Christians and Jews, the Hastings and District Jewish Society and the Christian Friends of Israel with the support of Hastings Borough Council.
