John White receives MBE at palace
WILLINGDON School governor and retired teacher John White attended Buckingham Palace and was recognised for his services to education by the Prince of Wales.
Prince Charles presented John with the MBE for services to education in East Sussex.
The 77-year-old spoke to the Herald when the New Year's honours were announced and he said he was 'surprised but honoured' when he was informed back in November. John recently attended Buckingham Palace with his wife Audrey, also a retired teacher, to receive the accolade.
He has been given the MBE after 16 years of educational service in Tanzania, leading teacher training departments in Eastbourne College of Education and Brighton Polytechnic/University, before retiring as Dean of the Faculty of Education.
He has been a governor at Willingdon Community School for 30 years and chairman for the last 15. John has also served as a past chairman of the East Sussex Governor's Association and south east regional director of the National Governor's Association.
He remains an active as a governor representative on county educational bodies and as an appointed ambassador of East Sussex.
