7/1/13- Protestors at the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road site. Protestor taken away by police

A FRESH wave of protests kicked off this week against the construction of the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road.

Work was due to resume on the multi-million pound project on Monday, following the Christmas break.

But an estimated 20 to 30 protestors took to the trees, descended into tunnels and blocked the path of diggers at the site near Adams Farm in Crowhurst.

The group of protestors, who call themselves the Combe Haven Defenders, have set up a protest camp on the disused railway cutting just east of Adams Farm.

The group has vowed to continue their protests.

A spokesperson for the Combe Haven Defenders said: “The second Battle of Hastings has now begun in earnest.

“We intend to do everything in our power to peacefully resist this road, and urge all those concerned about the environment, the countryside, or the public purse to join us.”
