Man rams store window with his mobility scooter
AN unusual case of what might be described as “scooter rage” shattered the peace in Bexhill town centre on Wednesday this week.
A disabled person’s mobility scooter was driven into a display window at the Co-Op supermarket in Western Road, cracking the glass and causing a loud bang.
The incident happened between 11am and 11.30am and is currently being treated as a deliberate act of criminal damage by police, who are now investigating.
Officers have appealed for witnesses after CCTV showed a man driving past the shop on a blue-grey mobility scooter suddenly stop, turn round and ram the machine into the window.
Co-Op team leader Anna Beale said: “ Luckily no one was hurt and we’ve boarded up the window until it can be repaired. We think the person responsible may be a regular customer who had earlier had a complaint about the store’s Paypoint service.”
Sgt Stuart Mullins, of Bexhill Police, said: “The suspect is a white male in his 60s, wearing blue jeans and sunglasses, white haired and balding. We are treating this as deliberate and any witnesses should please telephone 101.”
