Mayor opens refurbished Old Town library

EASTBOURNE mayor Greg Szanto formally opened the newly refurbished Old Town Community Library.

Housing contractor United House has recently completed 15,000 worth of refurbishment work at the library alongside its Decent Homes programme in Old Town.

United House carried out work including fitting a new kitchen, bathroom facilities and an alarm system to the building, as well as repairing areas affected by damp, putting up shelves and replacing some of the electrics which had been damaged.

As well as the building work from United House, the library has received two grants.

The Sussex Community Foundation awarded the library 1,500 and the Big Lottery Fund agreed to fund the library's request for improved IT services for the public and gave them a cheque for 8,667.

As a result, the library can now offer free internet access and has a computerised booking system.

The Mayor of Eastbourne Councillor Gregory Szanto said, "Our Old Town Library is an important part of our local community and we look forward to using the improved facilities."
