Midwife and team receive praise from trust

A PRACTICE development midwife and her team have been honoured by the hospital trust for helping maternity services achieve a national quality accreditation standard.

Gayle Clarke and her team, who work in Eastbourne and Hastings, were awarded the monthly staff award for their part in the maternity units achieving level 2 accreditation from the Clinical Negligence Scheme in Trusts.

The accreditation is part of an external quality scheme that looks at best practice within the maternity department along with the mechanisms and policies that are put in place to ensure safety.

The assessment process was very rigorous and the CNST assessor commented on how well Gayle and her team had managed the process.

They were nominated by Lorraine Lea, divisional senior general manager for women and children's services, who said, "Gayle has been working on our preparations for this assessment for over a year. She has been meticulous in her preparation and has worked far beyond what we would expect of her.

"The achievement has been the result of a team effort within maternity but we have also been supported by staff from other areas including the clinical governance team, anaesthetics and paediatrics."
