A NOTICE board showing a wheelchair-accessible nature trail being built at a Bexhill school has been donated by a local business.

St Mary’s School Wrestwood’s CEO Gail Pilling was joined by Jay Wootten, chair of charity committee at Hastings Direct to formally hand over the board, which gives up-to-date information and a map of the nature trail.

St Mary’s School is one of Bexhill-based Hastings Direct’s former charity partners.

Staff from both sites worked hard to help St Mary’s with its nature trail project, which will be used by the 137 pupils and students at the school.

Staff from Hastings Direct volunteered on the project with the children and young people at St Mary’s for more than 12 months.

They helped with everything from good old fashioned digging, planting and the creation of bird and other wildlife boxes dotted along the nature trail, as well as helping to fundraise to help the Trust to move forward with this project.

Gail Pilling sad: “We are so grateful for all the support we have received from Hastings Direct over the past few years. They have made so many projects possible for us and the children really enjoy their visits. We hope to encourage more people to get involved in volunteering as part of our activities to celebrate our 90th year as a school.”

Jay Wootten, chair of the charity committee at Hastings Direct said: “It is fantastic to see the official completion of this long-term project that will be enjoyed for years to come by thousands of children.

“We always say au revoir to our former charity partners not goodbye and it is fantastic to see everyone again and the nature trail looking so good – even in these winter months.”

• Pupils and staff from St Mary’s recently joined staff at Hastings to sing and sign carols at the company’s charity Christmas fair. Jay also presented St Mary’s with a cheque for £200 raised at the fair for the school.
