New Year’s resolution - getting fit in 2013?

FITNESS instructor Chris Haines has helped 200 people shed 1,144lbs in training sessions during the last six months and a further 34 clients lose 500 lbs through personal training.

The former Royal Marine is well placed therefore to advise anyone ready to shed some weight, get fit, or work on damage limitation following the festive seasom. Chris started Commando-Fitness-Uk when he left the armed forces and began his own programme of fat loss and muscle building. He has achieved success one-on-one but also with the group classes he is now focussing on. He works with men and women of all ages and levels of fitness, and is proud of their individual achievements, such as a 30 year old man who recently went from 16st to 12st.

“It’s excellent,” said Chris. “This is such an amazing job. Some people get in touch with me and worry they are unfit or overweight. But I think anyone can do it. You can draw inspiration from other people. I have had people in their 50s and 60s come in, a man who was 25st, and I think if they can do it, then you can do it as well.”

His starting point is motivation: “The only way it will work is if you want to do it.”

Chris believes then the way forward is to focus on “cardio, diet and resistance” and says: “If you have all three you will lose fat faster. For example, if someone just runs they will lose weight but not as much as if they run, follow a correct diet, and increase weight training to raise their metabolism.”

He recommends eating “little and often” and advises 4-6 meals a day, always with protein, and carbohydrates as needed for energy - but not late at night, as this will be stored as fat. He encourages eating good fats for fat burning, and urges clients to pay careful attention to labels when buying food as a low-fat alternative might look promising but contain hidden sugar. His plan is to follow the diet for six days and then relax on the seventh and enjoy a few treats before getting back on track the next day. Chris also suggests that people do not weigh themselves every day as this can be discouraging.
