Ofsted news is a delight to school’s staff and pupils

Staff and children from St Peter and St Paul primary school have received the thumbs up from Ofsted’s chief inspector.

An interim assessment revealed the school is maintaining its good performance following the last inspection and report in summer 2010.

A letter from Sir Michael Wilshaw confirmed that the school in Buckhurst Road is on track and had sustained its performance so a full inspection is not necessary in the near future. The next inspection will not take place until summer term 2014 at the earliest.

The good news has gone out to pupils and families and new head teacher Angela Hamill, who is “delighted”, and commented: “This very welcome news is testament to the hard work and dedication of all our staff. We look forward to working with our whole school community to continue to go from strength to strength.”

The chief inspector told them that schools which are performing well are now inspected less often than other schools. He said: “This usually means that good schools are inspected once in five years, while schools that require improvement will be inspected between 12 to 24 months after their last inspection.

“Some good schools are inspected after three years; others may have their inspections put back. To help decide whether we can wait longer than three years before undertaking a full inspection of a good school, Her Majesty’s Inspectors look at, and evaluate, various sources of information...This is called an ‘interim assessment’.

Pupils’ attainment, progress, and attendance are all considered, plus any inspection visits carried out by Ofsted since the last routine inspection, qualifying complaints about the school, results from Parent View, and any other significant issues brought to Ofsted’s attention including from the relevant local authority.

He concluded: “I am pleased to inform you that our interim assessment shows that the school’s performance has been sustained and that we can defer its next full inspection.”
