On your marks for second bbb10K Run
Hundreds of runners will pour into the streets of Battle for the second annual bbb10k Run on Sunday.
The event, which is organised by the Battel Bonfire Boyes, was such a success last year, it has been expanded in 2010 to include a mini junior run before the main race.
The mini run, open for nine to 14-year-olds, will kick off the morning's activities at 9.30am, from the start line on the Abbey Green.
The junior runners will head up the High Street, around the roundabout by the police station, then back down the High Street to the start/finish line.
The race will be spilt into two age categories, nine-11yrs and 12-14yrs, with medals for all who finish the course and trophies for the first three runners home in each category for both boys and girls.
The event so far has 25 participants, with organisers expecting this number to swell on the day,
Anyone interested in entering on the day can register from 8am on the Abbey Green at the cost of 3.50 per person.
The main bbb10k Run itself will start at 10am in the High Street, with the Bonfire Boyes tradition of firing a maroon, which will be fired again as the first runner crosses the finishing line.
Runners head up the High Street, round the roundabout and back down before continuing to Lower Lake, where they will turn right into Powdermill Lane.
At the end of Powdermill Lane, at Horns Corner, they will turn right towards Battle Road and then down in to North Trade Road, through the High Street and finishing on the Abbey Green.
At present, approximately 200 hundred runners have entered but more are expected to enter in the lead up to the race and on the day itself.
The event is open to a maximum of 500 runners with a minimum age limit of 15.
Entries are still being taken online at www.bbb10k.co.uk until midnight tonight (Friday), entry 11.50 per person.
Entries can be made on the day at 15 per person.
All runners will receive a medal on completing the course.
The event is organised by Battle Bonfire Boyes, who re-introduced the run last year after a 15-year absence.
The event has been split into several classes for both ladies and men: 15-18 years, 19-29, 30-29, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and above.
There is also a fancy dress section and a cup for the runner collecting the most sponsorship for Battel Bonfire Boyes.
Trophies will be awarded to the majority of the classes up to third place in each class.
There is also a 50 cash prize for anyone who breaks the course record, currently held by Ross Skelton at 34 minutes 49 seconds.
The award ceremony will take place on the Abbey Green at 11.45am with Battle Mayor David Hussey handing out the prizes.
There will be entertainment, music and refreshments on the Abbey Green, along with the chance to join Battel Bonfire Boyes.
All profits from the event will go towards the 12,000 needed to stage this year's Battle Bonfire Celebrations on Saturday November 6.

* Several roads will be closed in the centre of Battle on Sunday for the bbb10k Run.
Battle High Street, Upper and Lower Lake will be closed for the first part of the race until the last runner enters Powdermill Lane.
Powdermill Lane will be closed from 10am until the last runner leaves Horns Corner, expected to be at approximately 10.45am.
Stop/Go boards will be used for a short period of time on the Parkgate Manor bends in Catsfield Road, to help ensure the safety of the runners.
A 'lead' car and a 'sweep' car will be used at the front and rear of the runners to warn of runners on the road.
