Pip defies illness to be named pet of the month
2/3/13- Derek Stocker with cat Pip who has been awarded Claremont Vet's 'Pet of the Week' following his recovery from a serious illness.
His name is Pip and it’s fair to say he’s used up one of his nine lives. But he overcame a serious threat to his health with help and TLC and has now been made Pet Of the Month by Claremont Vetinary Group.
Pip is owned by Derek Stocker of Duke Street who this week paid tribute to the care and attention given to his beloved pet. Pip was one of three rescue cats Derek brought with him when he moved to Bexhill in 2003.
He said: “Pip became ill with what is known as FLUTD, a not uncommon ailment in male cats where the bladder becomes blocked and without urgent treatment will result in death usually within 72 hours of the onset of the problem. FLUTD is Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease/Disorder and needs very urgent attention.
“I noticed Pip not passing urine as often as usual even though he is an outdoor cat, he was also showing lethargy, no interest in food and vomiting.
A trip to my vet at Claremont Veterinary Group where a rapid diagnosis was made and treatment including a week long stay and catheterisation and rehydration put Pip back on the rails again. He is now still on two medications but thankfully home and passing urine normally.
“Pip has now been named as “Pet of The Month” at Claremont and his photo displayed in the waiting/reception area. My thanks to the vets and staff for looking after Pip whereby all accounts he received lots of TLC along with his treatment programme.”
