Police release CCTV image from armed robbery

POLICE have released a CCTV still of two men they want to trace in connection with an armed robbery at the Co-op store in Eastbourne last month.

The thieves escaped with a large amount of cash after attacking staff at the Co-op in the Hydneye at 9.30pm on Friday February 26.

They forced their way into the back of the shop and punched a male member of staff in the face and back and then threatened him and a female member of staff.

They demanded cash and ran off into the Hampden Park area. All were wearing black clothing and balaclavas.

The CCTV clip shows one suspect in the foreground holding a knife with a gloved hand and wearing a dark green or grey camouflage style jacket with hood. His accomplice is seen helping himself to the contents of the safe and is wearing what appears to be a home-made balaclava.

The balaclava looks like it has been fashioned from the leg of a pair of blue jeans. His jacket is black with two white stripes on the shoulders and a white motif on the arm.

Detectives are now investigating and are appealing to anyone who saw the robbery or noticed people acting suspicious in the area that evening, to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1908 of February 26.
