Police alert after 'TV researcher' approaches teens

Police are urging people to be alert following reports of a man claiming to be a radio and television researcher approaching teenagers in Burwash.

The man was seen in the village on Thursday February 25, knocking on doors and asking to speak to children in their early teens.

He was also spotted approaching young people on the street and asking them to complete a questionnaire.

The man offered no official identification.

It is believed he was driving a blue W-reg Fiat Punto. There were no logos on the vehicle.

The man is described as white, about 5'10" tall, aged in his 50s, with black hair, a short moustache that fades out around the top lip and a pot belly.

He was wearing black shoes, a dark coloured jumper, dark tan trousers and was carrying a black zip up case.

Police say the man could be legitimate, but are keen to hear from anyone who sees him again.

Sergeant Dan Russell, of Sussex Police, said: "This male was canvassing in the area. Please contact police if he is seen.

"At this time it is not known whether he is legitimate or not.

"If he is seen to get into a vehicle, if possible, please take his registration number.

"I thank members of the public for their continued vigilance and can assure them that each call is followed up."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999, quoting serial numbers 940 and 991 of February 25.
