Protesters bed down in battle to keep peace
FORTY years ago John Lennon and Yoko Ono held Bed-Ins for Peace and last week more than 100 local residents staged a similar event at Eastbourne's Big Sleep Hotel.
The event was held to promote peace and as a protest against wars across the world.
Organiser Jean Andrew, from Women Opposing War, said the event was a great success.
"Members of the public and ourselves got into the bed and gave a video diary about how we felt about the world today and what we would like our governments to address, there were many different concerns."
"These will go on You Tube and be sent to MPs."
Patsy Caberet was involved in the bed-in and provided entertainment at the event. She said, "There are a lot of things wrong with this world including the 42 wars that are taking place.
"War is wrong, wasteful of human life, wasteful of money and a huge green issue as it causes unnecessary damage and pollution."
Local artist and poet Michael Green made posters and artwork for the bed-in and youngsters created jewellery and crafts with their parents.
Jean added, "We would love to make it a regular event and would like to say a big thank you to the management and staff at the Big Sleep Hotel - they were tremendous and made us feel so welcome."
