Raising cash for India aid trip

A GROUP of youngsters from Beulah Baptist Church will be setting off for India to work in several projects in the city of Kolkata.

The girls will be supporting Good News Children’s Education Mission (GNCEM) which works with children living in slum areas. GNCEM deliver lessons for the children, who would otherwise not receive any education, along with food, facilities to wash and a simple school uniform to wear.

As a team they will spend time playing with and caring for these children, and also teaching them basic English and maths.

Another project they will get involved with is The Little Sisters of the Poor – a home for the elderly.

The group will visit many more projects, such as one in the heart of the red light district. Freeset aims to give women a way out of prostitution by providing a good wage working in its factory. The company primarily produces bags, which are then sold throughout the world.

Many of the women involved in Freeset are victims of sex trafficking, which is rife in India.

The Beulah group has to each fund their own travel and accommodation arrangements and have many fund raising events planned throughout the coming months.

The first is tomorrow - a coffee morning at Beulah Baptist church hall in Clifford Road, from 10.30pm-12noon.

As well as tea and coffee there will be cake, book and secondhand jewellery stalls, face painting and henna tattooing.

Church spokesman Gerald Philpott said; “Do come and support these girls in what will be an adventure which will be a life-changing experience and will develop new skills that will benefit them in their future lives.

“Anyone wishing to make a donation can send their contribution to Beulah Baptist Church, Clifford Road, Bexhill-On-Sea TN40 1QA or contact the Youth Leader at the church office on 01424 730001.”
