Richmond Methodist Care Home Summer Garden Party

THE RICHMOND Methodist Residential Care Home in Collington Lane East held its popular Summer Garden Party on Saturday.

This event is always well attended, by both two and four legged creatures, because along with the mandatory delicious strawberry cream teas, and a variety of entertainment, the dog show always proves to be a hit, not only for the wonderful doggy treat prizes to be won, but also for the choice of seven very descriptive classes in which any breed can enter.

From 'Sweetest Puppy' to 'Golden Oldie', to the 'Most Handsome Dog' and the 'Prettiest Bitch' they came in all shapes and sizes with entrants such as a Siberian Husky, a 'Yorky Jack Russell', Poodle, Yorkshire Terrier, Black Labrador, and Basset Hound to name but a few.

Making the difficult judging decisions was Claire Cook of Scallywags Dog Training School, she said she was amazed at the variety of dogs entering the competition and expressed a very big thank you to the Cats Whiskers for very kindly donating all the prizes.

Other activities at the party included stalls selling jewellery, gifts, and bric a brac, there was a raffle and tombola and for the more adventurous there was hair braiding or face painting on offer.

Richmond's home manager, Emma Ashton, said that despite the weather not being particularly summery they still had a good turn out.

She said: "We've raised 865, which is better than last year, and this will go into the resident's fund which helps pay for special activities and treats, such as tea dances etc, that the residents would otherwise not have the opportunity to do."

She added: "I'd like to thank everyone who came along today and the support group for all their help."
