Rope rescue team busy weekend
Three Bexhill firefighters trained in rope rescue played their part in a dramatic rescue on Friday night.
A 27 year old woman fell down a 30ft woodland ravine and broke her ankle in Darvell Down, Netherfield, just outside Battle.
She managed to crawl back out to the camp site but then had to be stretchered out so emergency services were called.
The Rope Rescue Team from Bexhill and Battle was called out to the emergency around 10.30pm with back-up from a team from Broad Oak.
The team made a cable way between the two edges of the ravine – similar to a zip wire – and pulled the victim on a stretcher across and then carried her 150 yards over bumpy ground in the dark to a waiting ambulance.
Their rescue operation took approximately 90 minutes.
It was a busy weekend for the rope rescue team which was called out again on Saturday and went to Lewes following reports that someone had fallen into a chalk pit.
