MEMBERS of Bexhill Rotary Club have been working closely with Bexhill Caring Community in Sackville Road by delivering Christmas hampers to the needy of Bexhill.

Jackie Haggerty, manager at Bexhill Caring Community, had already amassed piles of food items and goods from a variety of donors.

Shhe had also organised a team of volunteers to pack a whole host of Christmas hampers.

The only thing she then needed help with was in the distribution.

This is where Bexhill Rotary Club, along with others, sprung to the rescue, much to Jackie Haggerty’s relief and gratitude.

The hampers were delivered with a cheery smile to families, elderly couples or those living on their own who may otherwise have little or nothing to enjoy at Christmas.

Jackie, who is enjoying her second Christmas with the charity, said: “We are really grateful for all the help we have received as we couldn’t have done all this without the support we have had.”

Bexhill Rotarian John Wilson, who orchestrated Bexhill Rotary Club’s volunteers, added: “I’m please that we were able to help in some small way in distributing these much-needed hampers.

“Bexhill Caring Community volunteers are to be congratulated for all the work they have put in to make Christmas special for so many people who would otherwise go without.”

Bexhill Caring Community offers, through a team of dedicated volunteers, a multitude of services for the housebound and lonely of all ages.

These services include shopping, visiting, sitting, library, equipment loan, form filling, odd jobs, home help and gardening, general caring, the voluntary car service and Dial-A-Ride.

The charity won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2006, having originally been conceived in 1965 and registered as a charity in 1967.
