Saffron's family fun day

It's been an incredible year for young mum Penny Ives and shows no sign of letting up.

She organised a charity ball at the De La Warr Pavilion in the name of her daughter Saffron who died last Autumn having been born months too early.

Penny got married soon after to David, the man she met in the whirl of fundraising, and now she has another important date to look forward to - Saturday September 4 - when she holds a family fun day for Bliss, the campaign for special care baby units.

It will be another big day because she is working with family and friends on the charity event just weeks before what would have been Saffron's first birthday on September 20.

"It's a huge one," said Penny this week.

"I'm looking forward to it. It is going to be Saffron's birthday so we thought we would do something to mark that."

Saffron's Family Fun Day at the Bell Hotel will start at 11am and run until closing time, with a barbecue, raffle, mini auction, competition, food, drink and bouncy castle.

The day will be compered by Justin Wilkes, from Kiss FM, and among the goodies he offers up will be the chance of a three day stay in a holiday cottage in North Wales.

Everyone is welcome at the day which is free entry.

"There's lots of things going on," commented Penny, "We are still putting it all together, but there will be all the usual htinks like cake sale, and lots of little bits, competitions, and fun - we hope people will spend what they can."

Previously Penny Denwood, the 33 year old has suffered tragedy twice - she also lost a little son Thomas who was born prematurely.

She did not give herself over to grief however, concentrating instead on looking after her other child Summer-May, and focussing on the ball and charity auction which turned into one of the most popular events of 2010.

She got close to David Ives during the run-up to the ball when he produced a song written specially for Saffron called Tiny Angels, and they got married in June.

Penny said: "It just goes to show there is always something good to come out of a bad situation."

She is already making plans for next year when she intends to climb Mount Snowdon in Wales with a group of friends.
