Children at Charters Ancaster celebrating Ofsted report

AN inspection by Ofsted using new tougher guidelines resulted in a good report for private school Charters Ancaster.

Head of the prep school and nursery, in Gunters Lane, Miriam Black was “pleased and proud” to receive confirmation from inspectors it is a good school which “provides a high quality of education” enabling “pupils to achieve well over time in all subjects.” The report said: “Pupils usually reach and exceed expectations for their age by the time they leave the school in mathematics and science as well as in English.” The report highlighted that “pupils are particularly well prepared for the next steps in their education.” Children themselves have commented: “Work is challenging and teachers push you but you always get a good result.”

Praising her staff, Mrs Black said: “All credit goes to the dedicated team whose efforts have resulted in many positive comments from Ofsted,” including their strong subject knowledge, vibrant lessons and enthusiasm to motivate pupils. Early years’ staff were told “children get off to a positive start in the Nursery and Reception classes. Learning continues as children move around the enticing indoor and outdoor classroom areas.”

The school was one of the first five in the country to be inspected by Ofsted under the new, much more rigorous framework for inspecting non-association independent schools.

Mrs Black continued: “There is always room for improvement and those responsible for the leadership and management of the school will now endeavour to lead the school on to become not only “good” but “outstanding”, striving to provide an exceptional quality of education, at an affordable cost, in all areas for future generations.”

Per Thorkildsen, Chairman of the Governors commented: “I am immensely proud to be associated with Charters Ancaster and their team of dedicated management and staff that make Charters Ancaster such a joyful learning environment for the children. My congratulations to them all for this result! We should now aim to strive to build on this report to aim for excellence”
