School defies the snow

Charters Ancaster Preparatory School and Nursery was open as normal on Tuesday despite the snow thanks to a big effort by staff

The headteacher, bursar and maintenance team cutting tracks up Gunters Lane, which had not been been gritted, before 7am to ensure the school could be opened.

The phones were manned and website up dated to keep parents informed. The drive was cleared including the part of Gunters Lane at the end of the drive to stop cars sliding on entering the school. Headteacher Miriam Black said: “Once again the Charters Ancaster team has pulled together, we nearly have a full complement of staff, many walking from their homes to the school”. Roger Powell the bursar added: “We always endeavour to stay open to provide a service to our parents.”
