Snow falls in Battle and Rye
Battle and Rye woke up to a blanket of snow this morning, with meterologists expecting more snow falling throughout the day.
A number of schools have confirmed they will be closed to pupils today: Battle and Langton, Brede, Burwash, Claverham Community College, Crowhurst, Dallington, Etchingham, Hurst Green, Netherfield, Ninfield, Northiam, Robertsbridge Community College, St Thomas' in Winchelsea and Staplecross have all closed their doors.
Southeastern has suspended train services between London, Ashford International and Rye, but train bosses hope to get services running again by 11am.
The high speed services on the line continue to run.
East Sussex County Council is confident it has enough grit stockpiled to keep traffic on the move.
An ESCC spokesperson said: "Despite last winter's extreme cold weather and heavy snow, we were prepared and maintained sufficient salt stocks to see us through this period.
"We do not rely on a 'just in time' process for salt stocks but regularly review the level of salt stocks throughout the season to check how much is being used and make sure they are replenished.
"We have a starting stock of 8, 000 tonnes of grit and use approximately 200 tonnes each time we grit the county's roads.
"We are confident we are ready for this winter's weather."
