Speakers’ panel to discuss energy issues

BEXHILL MP Greg Barker will be joining a panel of speakers on Saturday March 9 between 10.30am and 11.30am at Centre Stage, London Road, to discuss energy issues.

The meeting, called Energy We Can All Afford? is being organised by a coalition of local and national organisation under the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition banner, and is one of more than 40 similar meetings taking place around the UK over the next three months. Fuel bills are higher than ever, and the Government’s Energy Bill is working its way through Parliament. Mr Barker has an important role to play in shaping the Energy Bill as Minister for Energy and Climate Change.

Richard Watson, director and founder of Energize Sussex Coast and Bexhill’s Energy Advice Centre, who is also speaking the meeting, said: “We are very concerned about energy costs as gas and electricity prices go up, while far too many homes in Bexhill and Hastings are still very poorly insulated. Many poorer and elderly people are living in cold and draughty homes, and finding it very hard to pay their bills.”

Other local organisations and energy installers will be at an afternoon drop-in session, from 12noon to 5pm, to give advice.
