Standing in county election
He’s better known for campaigning to save Bexhill’s vintage cinema but Andrew Crotty is so committed to the town that he wants to stand in the upcoming county election.
The 38 year old dad, who lives in Western Road, helped prove his place in the community just this week by helping stricken drivers in the snow on Monday evening when the blizzard was at its worst and on Wednesday was shovelling snow away from Chantry Lane and putting down grit because of the icy danger to pedestrians.
He told the Observer: “I want to stand in the county elections as I have been fighting to save Bexhill’s last remaining cinema and I have had a lot of support from the town to keep this wonderful building. But I also want to keep Bexhill as a lovely seaside town with a good infrastructure for people and traders’ benefit. Instead of shops closing down let’s help promote the shops this great town has got, and as a proud Bexhillian I will fight to stop this becoming a ghost town. Bexhill is a lovely town to live in for young and old, but we need to have a mix of shops and amenities for the young and old to be a part of and grow. In 1997 I won a Mayors award for “ Outstanding contribution for youth service” which I’m proud to have achieved as it was a labour of love, so I know I can help this town come back to greatness.”
