Two in hospital following crash on icy road

Two people were taken to hospital following a crash near Ashburnham Place this morning (Monday).

The accident happened on the A271 at 7am when a van and car collided after losing control on the ice.

Fire crews from Battle used specialist cutting equipment to free the 38-year-old driver of the Renault Megane convertible.

He was taken by ambulance to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings with a broken leg and suspected fractured ribs.

The driver of the Peugeot van was also taken to hospital, but his injuries were not thought to be serious.

There were no passengers in either vehicle when the accident happened.

The road was closed by police.
