Westminster beckons for landfill protestors
ANTI-LANDFILL protesters are sending out an emergency call for support for their coach trip to Westminster next Friday.
A mistake in a press release resulted in the wrong date being printed in last week's Observer.
Bexhill Against Landfill and Incineration (BALI) take their fight to stop a landfill site being developed in Ashdown Brickworks, Turkey Lane, to Parliament next Friday, June 11, not on July 11, as was previously published.
A coach leaves Bexhill at 10am, and the trip includes a conducted tour of the House of Commons after the protest.
And Bexhill's MP, Greg Barker, took time out from his new duties (published in this week's Observer) as minister of state for climate change, to meet BALI ringleaders in his constituency office on Amherst Road.
Mr Barker listed the anti-landfill campaign as a top priority during his election campaign, and met with Nick Hollington, chair of BALI, and committee members Diane Cheeseman and Iva Barnes to discuss the next move last week.
Pledging his support, Mr Barker said: "BALI goes from strength to strength but we now need to grow it into a mass membership organisation to reflect all parts of the community.
"I will continue to work closely with the group as we fight the proposals together."
For information about the coach trip contact Judy Murray (220109) or Iva Barnes (221872).
