Woman punched in the face during night time assault

A WOMAN was punched ni the face face by a man during an attack in Bexhill on Wednesday (2 January).

The victim, who is local, was walking home alone at about 12.30am when she stopped at the junction of Cranston Avenue and Colebrook Road to clear up after her dog.

As she did so she was approached by two people, one of whom was a man who asked her the time and then said that he would take her money.

He stepped forward and the victim hit him in self defence but he retaliated and punched her in the face, breaking her glasses and giving her a black eye.

The two people then ran empty handed from the scene towards Tesco.

A police spokesperson said: “The main offender has been described as white, in his mid 20s, 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build and wearing a hooded top. Unfortunately there is no description at all of the second person who was with him.

“This was a nasty assault and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened. If you have information, please call police on 101 quoting serial 0186 of 02/01. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
