Bexhill Senior Citizens' Club

A BOTTLE of Chivas Regal Scotch, a bread-maker, a slow-cooker, a fine crystal bowl and a grilling machine were just a few of the many desirable raffle prizes carried away by happy members this week.

The proceeds of 212 will be put towards the ongoing club refurbishments.

Recently the club was pleased to learn that one member, Jennifer Wilson the actress, has completed her successful tour throughout the UK in Agatha Christie's play And Then There Were None and will now move to St Martin's Theatre, London, on March 9 to appear in Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, where she will be under contract to 2010.

Many people will remember Jennifer from her starring role in the popular tv series The Brothers, which ran for many episodes in the Seventies.

All the group activities at the club are currently being well supported, i.e. bingo, bridge and whist, dancing, American dominoes, computer classes, creative writing, keep-fit for ladies, mat bowls, pool, table tennis, darts etc, as well as a monthly social evening.

The choir, who are currently rehearsing for their forthcoming summer concert, would welcome a few new male voices,.

As well as day-to-day activities there are coach trips organised from time to time, as well as an annual November five-day Turkey and Tinsel holiday, the details of which will be announced shortly.

Coffee and very reasonably-priced light lunches are available daily and there is also a very well-stocked and well-maintained free library in which to browse.

New members (over 55 years of age) are always made welcome. For more details call in at 45 Eversley Road any weekday between 10am and noon or telephone 212911. Subscriptions are 12 per annum plus 3 joining fee.

The computer group at Bexhill Senior Citizens' Club can now offer several courses for the over-55s.

Just call into the club any morning between ten and noon and find out more and maybe join in the fun and relaxed way to master the computer.

Whether you are an out-and-out beginner or looking to brush up on your computer skills, there is a volunteer tutor waiting to help.

Membership of the Senior Citizens' Club is a condition, but considering all the various activities held at the club for the older age group, whether it be dancing, art, writing, keeping fit or bowling, or just to sit and enjoy a cuppa with other like-minded folk, it's an opportunity to belong to a friendly, active, club.
