Thieves broke into a town centre bakery and made off with hundreds of pounds.

Burglars targeted Jempson’s café and bakery in Western Road between 6pm on Wednesday February 12 and 6.30am the following day.

And according to a spokesman for Sussex Police, they stole “several hundred pounds in cash”.

Detectives have not ruled out the possibility that this burglary would be linked to a similar incident at The Bengal Brasserie in London Road which was hit between 2.10pm and 5.20pm on February 12.

On that occasion someone broke into the premises and made an untidy search before leaving empty-handed – possibly before moving on to Jempson’s.

The Western Road café and bakery was entered via the rear of the premises and police do not currently have any descriptions of the thief or thieves.

They are therefore appealing for any witnesses or anyone who might have any information about the burglary to come forward.

Officers can be reached by calling Sussex Police on 101 or emailing 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk, quoting serial 0142 of 12/2 (Jempsons) or 1279 of 12/2 (Bengal Brasserie).

Alternatively Observer readers can call the independent charity Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Jempson’s is a family-owned coffee shop and bakery which opened back in January 2010.
