MP and Chamber praise 200 new jobs at insurer as boost for Bexhill

BEXHILL will benefit from 200 new jobs being created by its biggest employer, the insurance broker Hastings Direct.

They will come on stream over the next 12 months as the Collington Avenue company expands to meet growing customer demand. It now sells a new policy every 27 seconds and signed up its millionth client in March this year. It aims to treble that by 2020.

The first vacancies are customer-facing roles and will be recruited over coming weeks from among those who “love delivering great service and who get a buzz from achieving challenging goals in busy, fast-paced environments.”

Part-time, full-time and temporary staff will be drawn from Bexhill, Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton and Hove - and with 874 people currently unemployed in Bexhill, a town of some 45,000 inhabitants, it is a timely opportunity.

Bexhill and Battle MP Greg Barker welcomed the news and said: “Hastings Direct’s exciting plans to create 200 more local jobs is a huge boost for the town. As Bexhill’s largest employer I am delighted to see the company go from strength to strength.

“When I visited Hastings Direct earlier this year I was pleased to learn that in addition to recruiting extra staff, the company is also committed to providing training and career development opportunities for employees which demonstrates a real investment in local people.”

Sue Spice, of the Bexhill Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, added: “This is absolutely brilliant for the town. In the present economic climate more employment opportunities is a huge boost for Bexhill”

The new jobs are full-time equivalents and the company will consider job share or part-time mums, dads or students wishing to earn extra income across the shifts, which include evenings and weekends. All applicants must be aged over 18.

The starting package is circa £17,000, including an average monthly bonus payment, plus a range of benefits including employee discounts with major retailers worth up to £1,000 a year.

This year alone, Hastings Direct has won 10 prestigious industry awards. Its car and bike insurance products earned a five-star Defaqto rating and it was rated “First Class” in the Best Companies survey.

Amanda Menahem, Human Resources Director, said: “We are introducing our first fast-track graduate intake this September and urgently need to recruit even more talent across the business to achieve our ambitious goals.

“As well as the financial rewards we offer, there is a huge amount of opportunity for talented individuals to develop a career.”
