Jeremy Corbyn is ‘hated’ by voters and should step down as Labour leader following the EU referendum result, one of the party’s leading members in Bexhill and Battle has said.

A large number of Mr Corbyn’s shadow cabinet resigned yesterday and today after his decision to sack shadow foreign secretary Hilary Benn.

Mr Corbyn has been criticised for his performance during the EU referendum campaign, where he backed the remain campaign, which lost to the leave side.

Tim Macpherson, who is chair of the Bexhill and Battle Labour Party and a candidate in last year’s general election for East Worthing and Shoreham, said on Twitter: “He [Corbyn] is not up to the job, he sabotaged the Labour In campaign and voters hate him what more do you need?”

He added: “It really isn’t credible for a leader to have a large chunk of his Shadow Cabinet resign and think he can just carry on as normal #CorbynMustGo.”
