Katy Bourne has written to leader of West Sussex County Council Louise Goldsmith this week setting out her intention to explore whether there is a business case for the move.

In a meeting today Mrs Goldsmith described proposals as a ‘distraction we do not need’ and invited Home Secretary Theresa May to see the work that the service is delivering in West Sussex.

She said: “I’m firmly of the view we have a uniquely excellent model and one I would not want to see it put at risk.”

A number of county councillors from all parties spoke out against proposals.
