COURT RESULTS: Round-up of cases from 1066 Country

October 4:

John Bedford (aged 40), of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, damaging fences at a property and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a section of broken fencing. The offences took place at Rye on July 14. He also admitted being in breach of a suspended sentence, imposed by an earlier court for offences including two charges of assaulting police officers, sending an offensive communication and possessing drugs. He was sent to prison for a total of 32 weeks. Magistrates said the reason for the sentence was because of a ‘drunken, violent assault on police officers who he threatened with a weapon’ and aggravated by his previous record of offending.

Alexandru Barbulescu (aged 23), of Magdalen Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to speeding in a large goods vehicle at Eastbourne Road, Pevensey, on March 7. He was fined £120 and his driving record endorsed with three penalty points.

Bianca Dean (aged 27), of Thomas Brassey Close, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place. The offence took place at Robertson Street, Hastings, on June 19. She was given a one year conditional discharge.

Michael Mabbet (aged 43), of Lovat Mead, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to being the owner of a vehicle which did not meet insurance requirements. The offence took place at St Leonards on February 5. He was fined £60.

John Steele (aged 20), of Eversfield Place, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour. The offence took place at Hastings on July 30. The court made a community order with a requirement of a six week electronically monitored curfew between 9pm and 6am.

October 5:

John Batkin (aged 34), of Western Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to driving a Saab vehicle on Marine Parade, Hastings, on September 11, while nearly three times over the drink drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 104 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and to driving without insurance. He was fined £130 and banned from driving for two years. The court also made a community order with an alcohol treatment requirement and a requirement to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.

Joel Griggs (aged 48), of Filsham Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour. The offence took place at Hastings on July 23. He was given a six month conditional discharge.

Hayley Jeffs (aged 34), from Hastings, pleaded guilty to driving a Renault Magane, on Godwin Road, Hastings, on August 17, while more than three times over the drink drive limit. She gave a breath alcohol reading of 113 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. She also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance. She was banned from driving for 26 months and fined £120. The court also made a community order with a requirement of 180 hours of unpaid work.

William Lee (aged 29), of Alexandra Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and to being in possession of a bladed article in a public place. The offences took place at Havelock Road, Hastings, on June 25. He was sentenced to prison for six weeks, suspended for one year. Magistrates said the reason for the sentence was because of previous convictions. They also made a community order.

James Nicol, (aged 18), of Seabourne Road, Bexhill, pleaded guilty to driving a motorcycle on London Road, St Leonards, on July 26, with cannabis in his blood stream. He was fined £120 and banned from driving for one year.

Dean Read (aged 40), of Bohemia Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance. The offences took place at Upper Clarence Road, St Leonards, on August 22. He also admitted being in breach of a suspended sentence, made by a court last year, for offences of battery, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and criminal damage. He was sentenced to a total of 16 weeks in prison and banned from driving for 33 months. Magistrates said the reason for the custodial sentence was because of previous convictions and non-compliance with the suspended sentence.

Matthew Relf (aged 27), of Wittersham Rise, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Focus on St Margarets Road, St Leonards, on September 7 while over the drink drive limit. He gave a breath alcohol reading of 59 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35mg. He was fined £120 and banned from driving for one year.
