A passer-by was shot by an ‘air weapon’ by someone taking pot-shots in Bexhill on Sunday afternoon (July 26).

Police are trying to trace the person who used an air weapon, ball bearing gun or catapult and hit the victim at 12.50pm outside Poppins shop on London Road.

The missile struck his back, causing a sharp burning pain and leaving a red mark on his skin.

PC Elisabeth Kelly said: “This could have had far more serious consequences and air guns or similar weapons should never be aimed or fired at people or animals in this way.”

House-to-house enquiries have been made but officers would like to talk to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.

They are asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting serial 799 of 26/7.
