Die Fledermaus winging its way to White Rock
Preview: Die Fledermaus, White Rock Theatre
IF the thought of high drama, soaring voices and more plot twists than an entire series of 24 whets your appetite, then the White Rock theatre has just the thing.
Opera South East is bringing Die Fledermaus (The Bat) to the theatre next weekend in what promises to be a musical feast.
The plot centres around Gabriel von Eisenstein (Ian Parrett) who is due to go to prison, but whose last hours of freedom become wrapped up in a maze of practical jokes, double crossing and philandering.
It's typical operatic fare carried off with pomp and flair with a good smattering of familiar faces singing the principal parts.
Local tenor Peter Grevatt takes on the role of the hapless Dr Falke, while Karen McInally plays the scheming Prince Orlofsky, with Gary Marriott and Naomi Kilby playing Alfredo and Adele respectively.
Fleur Bray will be duplicitous wife Rosalinda while director Leon
Berger plays prison governor Frank.
The Sussex Concert Orchestra accompanies under Kenneth Roberts' musical direction, and they are sure to bring Johann Strauss' masterpiece to life with its cheeky, playful tunes.
It runs Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm and tickets (16/12, 3 off for concessions and under 16s free) are available from the theatre on 01424 462288 or www.whiterocktheatre.org.uk.
