A dog that ran off after biting a police officer trying to catch it in Bexhill was found yesterday (Thursday, August 17).

The brindle-coated Staffordshire Bull Terrier-cross bitch was located and safely recovered by officers at around lunch-time thanks to a member of the public.

It was found at waterworks close to Lewis Avenue, where it had originally been abandoned, and was later handed over to the local authority dog warden.

It is understood the dog and its pups have been re-united and are currently being cared for in kennels.

The injured police officer is off-duty and recovering from a deep bite to the wrist, for which he was treated in hospital.
