An abandoned picnic bag in a Sidley street sparked a police operation this morning (Thursday, June 9).

Police officers received reports from worried residents in the area saying that the item in Turkey Road was seen hanging over a fence early in the morning.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “We were called to the street at around 6.20am to reports of a turquoise square picnic bag hanging over a fence on some railings.

“We recovered the bag and found there was nothing inside it.

“It has been sent to our lost property.”
