Facade unveils hidden St Leonards
Outsiders can struggle to get to grips with St Leonards – a complex, layered architectual melting pot which is hard to define.
Who better then to open up this intriguing part of 1066 Country than the people who live and work there?
Wednesday night saw the unveiling of a collection of photographs taken by residents in a bid to capture local life through a lens.
They were taken during two photo-tours led by artist Sharon Haward and she has now selected some of the best pictures to create a snapshot of
St Leonards as seen by the people who make it what it is.
Fellow artist Rebecca Youseffi, who was treated to a sneak preview of the work, said: "It made me appreciate the beauty of my town as I noticed more than I have before."
This launch is the first stage of an exciting collaborative project which begins here and will move to Dover later in the year.
With funding from Hastings Borough Council, The Arts Council and Hastings Museum among others, Facade uses art to re-engage with people with the communities they live in.
This show will be followed by exhibitions at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery and The Gill Gallery in Kings Road over coming weeks.
There will be another photo-tour on March 27 starting from Hastings Museum at 11am, which will costs 5 a head.
