TWO funeral directors will leave their top hats and tailcoats at the office to undertake a 100-mile walk for a good cause.
It begins to make sense of a humorous promotional video shoot at Galley Hill, featuring a parked hearse and the intrepid walkers in Benny Hill-style quick-change guise.
Ian Fishwick and Ewan Walder have the full backing of the Arthur C. Towner funeral company, of Albert Road, Bexhill, to walk the South Downs Way in aid of St Michael’s Hospice.
Ian, 65, an experienced walker, said: “We’ve had a lot of fun planning this venture, especially as Ewan is new to this and probably doesn’t know what he’s letting himself in for. But he’ll be fine.”
Ewan, 51, said: “The serious side is that we are trying to raise £5,000 for the cause. During the course of our work we often visit the hospice and it really is a very special place. People we talk to say how fantastic it is.”
Carrying all their change-clothing on their backs, the trekkers hit the trail at Winchester on September 25 and will walk up to 19 miles daily until they reach Eastbourne seafront five days later.
