A local garden centre is holding a big charity event on Saturday to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

There are a host of family events taking place at Wyevale Garden Centre, at Bexhill Road, including a chance to see what is being billed as the South East’s only singing garden centre manager, from 3pm - 3.45pm.

There will be a children’s fancy dress competition at 3pm with categories for up to six years old and six - 11 years. Entry is £1 per family, which will be donated to Marie Curie.

Other children’s attractions include a bouncy castle, sponsored by Skinners sheds, face painting and hook a duck.

There will be a bowl for a pig competition with a chance to win meat vouchers for local butchers Appleyards or a toy pig.

There will also be two tombolas, including a chocolate tombola and a competition to guess the weight of a 1940’s parachute and harness.

Food on offer will include a summer inspired barbecue menu.

Local gardening expert Joseph Ford will be giving planting demonstrations on the day.

The garden centre is hoping to be able to raise over £2,000 for the cancer charity with the day-long event.

Marie Curie cancer care nurses give free hands-on care to people with all terminal illnesses in their own homes, and vital emotional support to their loved ones.

The charity provides care and support for more than 40,000 people living with a terminal illness and their families in the UK each year.

Last year, our nurses provided more than 1.3 million hours of nursing.
