A fundraising body established in memory of local man who took his own life in January 2013 has donated an incredible £6,273 to three local charities.

Katie Beckett explained: “Out Of The Blue is a fundraising body established in memory of Will Beckett who took his own life at Beachy Head in January 2013, at the age of 42. This tragedy came as an incredible shock for his family and friends – it came simply ‘Out Of The Blue’.

In the immediate aftermath of Will’s death, our family was supported, guided and inspired by three charities – Winston’s Wish, Dragonflies and The Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team. Out Of The Blue raises money to support these charities so they can help others like us.

Recently Katie Beckett presented a cheque to each charity for £2091.00.

The money was raised through events held by Out Of The Blue, Crowhurst Football Club and the Crowhurst Short Mat Bowls Club.

Katie said: “A big thank-you goes out to all those who continue to support us and help us raise awareness of the charities we support.

“We are also continuing to try and raise awareness about the taboo subjects of suicide and mental health - the more we talk about it, the more people will reach out for help”.

The Out Of The Blue 10k and 5k Race took place at Ashburnham Place, near Battle, in May and attracted hundreds of entrants.

Winston’s Wish is the leading childhood bereavement charity in the UK. It offers practical support and guidance to bereaved children, their families and professionals.

Dragonflies is a local bereavement charity and the Beachy Head Chaplaincy specialises in crisis intervention and search and rescue.

Their team is made up largely of volunteers, who are all Christians and active members of local church congregations.
