Guides and Brownies enjoyday of discovery in London

Brownies, Guides and Senior Section members from St Leonards, Battle, Sedlescombe and Bexhill travelled to London for a festival held at Greenwich.

The Bexhill Division spent a night under the stars at a mass sleepover at The Royal Observatory in Greenwich on Saturday June 18, as well as joining in the daytime fun on Sunday.

Girls at the sleepover joined 400 fellow Girlguiding members at the Royal Observatory, which was one part of a fun-filled weekend event called Discover, hosted by the charity’s London and South East office.

Open to all girls aged 5 to 25 in guiding, Discover offered members the chance to visit famous landmarks such as the Cutty Sark, sail down the Thames, and get up close with nature at a special stall hosted by the RSPB.

The 10th St Leonards Guides and 14th St Leonards Brownies joined the festival along with Battle Guides, Battle Senior Section and Sedlescombe Guides.

The groups joined more than 3,000 girls and young women at the special Izzy, Abby and Chloe from 14th St Leonards Brownies said: They had a fantastic day, and could have spent many more hours exploring the different attractions if time had allowed.

They visited the Discovery Centre, The National Maritime Museum and went onboard the Cutty Sark, which they thoroughly enjoyed. In their words, the day was ‘awesome!’
